From GERMANY- An interview with human rights lawyer and climate campaigner Tessa Khan. She discusses the outcome of the COP 28 climate summit in Dubai, which many felt was an inadequate response to the climate emergency being experienced across the globe. The majority of countries and activists demanded a timeline to end to fossil fuels- what was delivered was a watered down version calling for a transition away from fossil fuels without specifying a schedule.
From CUBA- On Friday December 8th the US vetoed a UN Security Council binding resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Palestine- 13 of the 15 members voted for it, the UK abstained and the US voted against. Following the veto the US Defense Department pushed through a sale of 14,000 tank shells to Israel without Congressional approval. Israel began this week by attacking a UN refugee school, a convoy of Palestinian ambulances, and another Gaza hospital. On Tuesday the UN General Assembly passed a non-binding resolution for a ceasefire- the US, Israel and 8 small countries voted against the bill, 23 countries abstained, and 153 voted for it.
From FRANCE- An interview with Gilbert Achar, Professor at the School of Oriental and Asian Studies in London. He describes the US veto of the ceasefire resolution as doublespeak and what the eradication of Hamas would entail.
From JAPAN- A Japanese doctor describes her recent work in Gaza with Doctors Without borders. The Washington Post reported Israeli use of US supplied white phosphorous munitions in Gaza. Health workers in Gaza are extremely worried about the rapidly spreading infectious diseases in shelters for Gaza refugees.

This week's show begins a collection of press reviews covering the war in Palestine, increasing right-wing ideology, and the climate summit COP 28, there will be another Belmarsh Tribunal this weekend calling for the release of Julian Assange, and why Venezuela feels justified in retrieving land stolen by Britain in 1899 for its British Guyana colony.
This week's show features stories from France 24, Radio Havana Cuba, and NHK Japan.
From FRANCE- For today's show I prepared several longer interviews as usual. However when I reviewed the daily press reviews from France 24 I found many insights to the war in Palestine, the Climate Summit, COP28, and the increasing right wing ideology. So I have selected 9 press reviews that provided me with a lot of information and opinion that expanded my global perspective. We will hear about a far-right jamboree in Italy, some takeaways and opinions on COP 28, news and international opinions on Gaza, the revised UK immigration bill, and whether it is healthy to watch war images on TV and in social media.
From CUBA- A piece on this weekend's Belmarsh Tribunal at the National Press Club in Washington DC, which is calling for the release of Julian Assange. The president of the International Red Cross said the level of human suffering in Gaza is intolerable. Iran has critiqued the US for its role in supplying Israel with weapons that are destroying the people and infrastructure in Gaza.
From JAPAN- The Foreign Ministers of Australia and France have agreed to boost military cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region, including sharing military facilities and holding joint drills. South Korea has test fired a solid fuel rocket, something that it had been restricted from using until 2021. Former Peruvian President Fujimori has been released early from prison for murder and corruption convictions. At the COP 28 summit the Global Carbon Project reported that there will be a record amount of carbon dioxide released from fossil fuels this year, and that the Paris agreement on limiting global temperature will be surpassed by 2030. Venezuela held a referendum on taking back part of its territory seized by Britain for former colony Guyana in 1899..

This week's show features stories from Radio Deutsche-Welle, Going Underground, and Radio Havana Cuba.
http://youthspeaksout.net/swr231124.mp3 (29:00)
From GERMANY- In Argentina the election of right-wing populist Javier Milei as President has been welcome by former presidents Bolsonaro and Trump. More surprising is the election of far-right politician Geert Wilders in the Netherlands- he is a staunch anti-immigrant white supremacist who says he will lead the country out of the EU.
From GOING UNDERGROUND- An interview with renowned Hungarian born Canadian physician Gabor Mate. His books on trauma, addiction, and childhood development are well-known around the world. He is an infant Jewish survivor of the Holocaust and speaks about the catastrophe underway in Palestine and Israel. He describes the trauma of youth growing up in occupied Palestine, and its relationship to the horrible attack by Hamas on October 7. He explains how the European history of colonization allows the American and European politicians and press to justify the Israeli slaughter of children and civilians. He also questions the notion that violence is an inevitable response of humans.
From CUBA- More than 50 journalists have been killed in the first 6 weeks of the war between Israel and Hamas. The UN general assembly President has travelled to Haiti in an attempt help stop the political and gang violence that has engulfed the island for two years.

From FRANCE- An edition of Perspective, with Dutch citizen Dr. Lex Takkenberg, the senior advisor on the Question of Palestine at the Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development. Then an interview from France 24s show called Perspective- Sari Bashi, program director at Human Right Watch, discusses the most urgent needs in Gaza- fuel, water, and electricity. She says that Israel has demanded that Gazans move while there is no safe place to move to or method to get there, and that it is a war crime to not protect civilians, something Israel and Hamas are both guilty of. Sari also says that Israel’s use of explosive weapons in densely populated areas continues to kill civilians and nearly 4000 children, and must stop these actions.
From CUBA- US based Jewish Voices For Peace blamed the US for supplying 80% of the bombs used on Gaza and called for an immediate ceasefire. Then a business report on the benefits the arms manufacturers have reaped from the wars, and threats of wars, spreading across the planet.
From GERMANY- The largest state run gas company in Ukraine is called Naftogaz, and Oleksiy Chernyshov is the CEO.
