From JAPAN- The leaders of Japan and South Korea met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, agreeing on three-way cooperation between themselves and the US. The new Japanese PM Kishida called for nuclear weapon testing to be abolished as presented in the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Germany is sending fighter jets to Japan for drills in Japanese airspace. US and Canadian naval war ships made a provocative pass through the Taiwan Strait. Moscow backed separatists in four regions of Ukraine are holding referendums on joining Russia.
 
From GEORGE GALLOWAY- George Galloways Mother Of All Talk Shows. His guest Pulitzer Prize winning American author Chris Hedges. They discuss a report in Newsweek magazine that 90% of the world is not with the US in the war in Ukraine, the financial catastrophe citizens in the West are facing because of the war, the shift to the far-right in some European nations, and what Chris calls the bankruptcy of the liberals.
 
From CUBA- Colombian President Petro announced an informal dialogue with the dissidents of FARC in a search for peace with the rebels. The UN World Food Program says there is a global food emergency. Pharmaceutical companies in the US are abusing the US patent system  to prolong their unprecedented profits. A Syrian envoy to the UN has urged the community to compel Israel to join the treaty on the nonproliferation of nuclear weapons, and allow inspections of its nuclear facilities by the IAEA. The family of murdered Palestinian-American journalist, Shireen Abu Akleh, has submitted a complaint to the International Criminal Court to demand justice for her killing.

South Korea fined Google and Meta platforms for privacy law violations. Iran is set to become a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization- at the meeting in Uzbekistan the leaders of China and Russia met on the sidelines, agreeing to work together as fellow major or super powers.

From FRANCE- The energy crisis and soaring prices are affecting people in Europe, leading to protests in most countries. Oil, gas , and electricity suppliers are reaping huge profits while governments are drawing up relief programs. Many citizens want the excess profits taxed, some countries just want energy prices capped. Germany is planning a $95 billion euro relief package to help with the cost of living. In Brazil, at the celebration of 200 years of independence from Portugal, President Bolsonaro turned the festivities into a massive campaign event a month before elections. Chilean voters rejected a new constitution which would have given rights to the indigenous, equality to women, and increase social welfare- those opposed rejected the changes as an attempt by communists to take over the country.
 
From CUBA- More on the electoral rejection of a constitutional reform in Chile. The Venezuelan Foreign Minister reported that the US wants to reestablish relations with his country, but that they insist on continuing the sanctions that have crippled his country. The Israeli military investigation of the assassination of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh concluded that there was a high possibility that bullet was fired by one of their soldiers, but that they will not launch a criminal enquiry. China has condemned the US National Security Agency for carrying out tens of thousands of cyber attacks and stealing volumes of sensitive data, primarily aeronautic and space research.
 
From JAPAN- China condemned US plans to sell more military equipment to Taiwan. 8 US Congressional lawmakers are in Taiwan, the 6th US delegation since Pelosi went in August. The investigation into ties between Japanese politicians and the church formerly known as the Unification Church or moonies revealed that half of the ruling party members have had contact. Putin said that Russia is economically unscathed by the invasion of Ukraine. The IAEA inspectors say that the situation at the Ukrainian nuclear power plant is grave, but will not say who is responsible for the shelling of the facility which is occupied by Russian troops.

From GERMANY- Extreme monsoon rains have left a third of Pakistan under water. 300,000 homes have been destroyed, and it may take 5 years to rebuild. The Foreign minister and the UN Secretary General both attribute the disaster to climate change. Sandrine Dixson-Decleve, the co-president of the Club of Rome, says the floods are proof that immediate action to curb climate change is essential, but points to numerous other droughts, heat waves and fires as further evidence. And that the most vulnerable people end up suffering the most, because of global inequality and poverty. She says that we are aware of the tools to reverse the causes, but we need to apply them. A US solar panel manufacturer plans to invest $1 billion to boost production and build a new factory in the US. The Amazon rainforest is burning at the highest rate in the past 10 years. The US Navy sailed two warships through the Taiwan strait, and the Governor of Arizona visited the island further irritating China.
 
From JAPAN-The Japanese government is investigating spiritual sales by the religious group formerly known as the Unification Church, referred to as the Moonies sometimes, which was a factor in the assassination of ex-prime minister Shinzo Abe. Many people in Japan are mourning the death of Gorbachev. The Japanese Defense Ministry is requesting a record high budget to drastically enhance its weapons, including attack drones and missiles to add counter strike capabilities. The G20 met in Bali to discuss the climate crisis but failed to even produce a joint communique. In Ukraine the IAEA inspection of the nuclear power plant seized by Russian troops is beginning at my press time.
 
From FRANCE- Press reviews on the death of Mikhail Gorbachev from both the West and Russian sources. Then an analysis of his unpopularity in Russia in the last decade.
 
From CUBA- Colombian President Gustavo Petro attended the Andean Community Summit with Peru, Ecuador, and Bolivia, and called for the reintegration of Chile and Venezuela into the regional bloc. At the UN Security Council, Syria rejected the US justifications for its repeated attacks on Damascus, and called for an end to its illegal presence on Syrian territory. The Chinese government called the US looting of Syrian natural gas and oil terrible and accused them of  depriving the Syrian people of the basic necessities of life."I believe in the cosmos. From FRANCE- Germany has begun running the first hydrogen powered train line with many more on the way. The French transportation minister is calling for regulation of private jets which emit 10 times more CO2 per passenger mile than commercial flights.
 
From GERMANY- It has been World Water Week at a time of droughts and heat waves. A researcher from the Stockholm Resilience Center discusses the need to maintain the global fresh water cycle, which is losing its resilience from deforestation and climate change. The last few weeks have seen record heat waves in China and Europe, and could be a preview of the future.
 
From CUBA- Brazilian Presidential candidate Lula da Silva promised to contain the deforestation of the Amazon basin by stopping illegal mining. Lula criticized politicians who use religious faith as a political platform, and that the state must remain secular. A Brazilian Supreme Court judge ordered the arrest of 8 businessmen who are promoting a coup d'etat if Lula wins the election in October.
 
From JAPAN- Large parts of China are engulfed by a record heat wave shutting many industries down. A daily record number of migrants tried to enter the UK by the English Channel. An update on the Iran nuclear deal. Russians are accusing Ukrainian intelligence of assassinating the daughter of a close ally of Putin.
 
From GEORGE GALLOWAY- George spoke with Garland Nixon, an American political analyst and radio talk show host on Pacifica radio station WPFW in Washington DC. They discuss Ukraine and how the rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific region affect it, and why many Europeans feel they are being sacrificed by the American empire. Garland says the European leaders have become puppets for the US.

From GERMANY- During a joint press interview, German Chancellor Scholz failed to criticize Palestinian President Abbas over remarks that Palestine had experienced 50 massacres or holocausts at the hands of Israeli forces- Scholz responded later and Abbas toned down his rhetoric. As record breaking heat is drying up rivers across Europe more problems with transporting goods are arising. France is intending to build more nuclear power plants, but the current lack of river water, which is used to cool down the reactors, is requiring special permission to discharge at temperatures that are damaging the local flora and fauna.
 
From FRANCE- Wildfires continue to rage in many parts of Europe- Portugal has recorded its hottest July on record, and has lost one percent of its land to the fires. France has seen many heat and fire records broken as well, but then hail and extreme rainfall created flooding and tornado like conditions in several parts of the country including Paris. The Iran nuclear deal is stalled because Iran wants guarantees that future US administrations cannot pull out of. France pulled military troops out of Mali who then accused the French of violating air space and assisting terrorist groups in the region.
 
From CUBA- Colombian President Petro has named new military leaders in the country. Brazilian womens organizations are mobilizing to support Lula da Silva in the October presidential election. The International Red Cross is imploring donors to resume aid to Afghanistan. A group of journalists and lawyers have filed a lawsuit against the CIA and Mike Pompeo for spying on them when they visited Julian Assange in the Ecuadorian embassy in London.
 
From JAPAN- 5 US Congressional lawmakers met in private with the Taiwan president in Taipei which resulted in more military activities by China. The US military test fired an ICBM missile from California, which the Air Force says demonstrated the readiness of US nuclear forces. The US defense department held a separate missile defense exercise off the coast of Hawaii with forces from Japan and South Korea.

From GERMANY- The heat waves and drought in Europe have left rivers, a major route for transporting goods, historically shallow. Israeli forces killed more than 40 Palestinians, including children, in what it termed a pre-emptive strike.
 
From CUBA- The UN Special Rapporteur on Occupied Palestine said the Israeli air raids were illegal and irresponsible. Cuba experienced the worst fire in its history at a fuel depot in Matanzas and was aided in suppression by Mexico and Venezuela. Death Valley in California received a years worth of rainfall in 3 hours, and Iran recorded its hottest ever August temperature of 130 degrees F. Then a Viewpoint on UN Secretary-General Guterres who warned that today humanity is just one miscalculation away from nuclear annihilation.
 
From JAPAN- Monday was the 77th anniversary of the US destroying the city of Nagasaki and 70,000 people with an atomic bomb. The WHO says that Japan again has topped the list of new recorded Covid cases for the third week in a row. The Chinese government has released a White Paper outlining a peaceful reunification of Taiwan. In response to Nancy Pelosi's controversial visit, Chinese military drills to intimidate Taiwan extended past Sunday- they finally pulled troops back on Wednesday.
 
From GEORGE GALLOWAY- George interviewed Chinese journalist Li Jing Jing about the anger Chinese citizens felt toward the Pelosi visit to Taiwan, the history of the US agreeing to the One China principle, and global agreement that Taiwan is part of China. Li goes on to say the visit was an intentional provocation by the US to start a war and attempt to militarily occupy the island, giving the US control the Indo-Pacific region.

Japan has experienced many rainfall records in the past week, up to 560 mm or 22 inches in a day, leading to floods and landslides. Drought conditions in Europe have worsened. In Japan Covid cases are surging at an unprecedented level. UN delegates are debating how to stop nuclear warfare from ever happening again. In the wake of Pelosi's controversial visit to Taiwan, China has launched military drills in the region, with 5 missiles landing in waters claimed by Japan.
 
From GERMANY- An analyst describes why the timing of Pelosi's Taiwan trip was very sensitive to the Chinese leadership, and how it will increase the militarization and economic conflict in the region. Then brief reports on Myanmar, forest fires in Portugal and Spain, womens groups in Chile are campaigning for a new constitution, and the first ship carrying grain from Ukraine is on its way to Lebanon.
 
From FRANCE- In Yemen the two month truce in fighting has been extended with a commitment to intensify negotiations to reach an expanded truce, though much of the deal is controversial.
 
From CUBA- Colombian VP-elect Francia Marquez met with former Bolivian President Evo Morales on her tour promoting a united and sovereign Latin America. There has been a Summit of Indigenous Peoples in Colombia concluded demanding that the humanitarian, economic, and environmental emergency of the indigenous people be immediately decreed. Indigenous Australian Green senator Lidia Thorpe blasted Queen Elizabeth 2 as a colonizing queen. Then a Viewpoint on the Supreme Court of the UK, which has denied Venezuela access to their gold reserves deposited in London- a judge explained that the UK recognizes Juan Guaido as President, not Nicolas Maduro.

From FRANCE- Giant oil corporations announced yet another quarter of record breaking profits- some countries are considering a temporary or windfall tax on the companies and some are establishing government refunds for consumers. Overshoot Day is the day of the calendar year when humans have consumed all the resources that the earth can generate for that year- every year it is becoming earlier and this year it was reached on July 28th- in 1970 it was reached on December 31st. The date is calculated by the Global Footprint Network, and a spokesperson for them explains the increasing threat and the search for alternatives. Due to a temporary cutback in gas supplies from Russia, EU members agreed to accept a 15% cutback in gas use from August to March.
 
From CUBA- A Viewpoint on the violent gang chaos in Haiti, saying it is the result of centuries of foreign intervention, large business consortiums, and NGOs (Non-governmental Organizations)- as well as the 2010 earthquake and last years presidential assassination. The first African woman Vice-President of Colombia, Francia Marquez, is touring other South American countries, talking about integration between nations. In the UK Palestinian supporters are disrupting work at companies manufacturing weapons for Israel. In NYC environmental activists declared a climate emergency as a climate clock moved from 7 years to 6.
 
From JAPAN- Troops in Taiwan are holding large-scale military exercises this week, and mainland China became very agitated. A group of Japanese lawmakers is calling on the government for a stronger response to recent executions by Myanmar's junta. Japan has become the worlds hotspot of Covid infections according to the WHO. Railway workers in Britain have staged a walkout for higher wages to match inflation.

       From JAPAN-  4 former executives of TEPCO, the company that manages the Fukushima nuclear power plants, were ordered by a court to pay $97 billion in damages to the utility. Authorities in Tokyo have raised the Covid alert to the highest level as the infection is doubling each week. South Korea finished four days of joint drills with US forces. Shinzo Abe, former Prime Minister of Japan, was assassinated while campaigning for another candidate- Japanese police revealed that the assassin was angry at Abe because his mother had donated all her wealth to the Unification Church, known in the US as moonies.
       From CUBA- First a Viewpoint on the assassination of former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe, pointing out how rare gun violence in Japan is, and how Abe moved Japan to develop a serious military force, reinterpreting Article 9 of the constitution to end pacifism. The Cuban President Diaz-Canel  reacted to US and EU statements praising the protest and riot in Cuba a year ago, which Cuba alleges was directed by people in the US. Then an American opinion piece comparing Joe Biden's criticisms of Cuba with equivalent social realities in the US. Venezuela is negotiating cooperation and trade with the EU. Environmental and indigenous groups are concerned by new proposed oil and gas development in northern Alaska. Trump is visiting Alaska to help Sarah Palin campaign for Congress.
