From JAPAN- North Korea test fired more ballistic missiles as a second US nuclear powered submarine docked in South Korea. Chinese and Russian dignitaries are in North korea attending the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice. China and Russia met at a BRICS meeting in South Africa. The Russia/Africa forum was held in St Petersburg and attended by 49 of Africas 54 countries. Turkish President Erdogan does not support the increase of NATO activities in the Asia-Pacific region.
From GOING UNDERGROUND- Excerpts of an interview with retired Col. Larry Wilkerson on a letter he signed in the NYT, calling on people to see the war in Ukraine from a Russian perspective. They also discuss the possibility of nuclear weapons in the war, how NATO will begin to dismember in the near future, and that the US will soon see European countries pull back their support for US endeavors.
From CUBA- The British government just passed an Anti-Immigration Bill that is widely denounced by human rights groups and the UN. The Portugese parliament voted in favor of a resolution recognizing Nakba Day and condemning Israeli annexation policies.
From FRANCE- Spain held a national election which many feared would show a growing shift to far-right parties- there were no clear winners. Then a press review on the record breaking ocean temperature off the coast of Florida and the complex changes scientists expect this will cause.

The 2023 Peoples Summit was held in Brussels parallel to the EU-CELAC summit. China has categorically opposed the eastward expansion of NATO.
From JAPAN- A US nuclear submarine is docked in South Korea, hours after North Koreas latest missile launch. Atomic bomb survivors in Japan urged the Japanese government to help eliminate nuclear weapons. A fire broke out at a military training facility in Crimea, 2 days after the bridge was bombed. Russia said it will restore the shipment of Ukrainian grains when its agricultural exports are no longer sanctioned by the West.

From JAPAN- The Japanese government asked the fishing industry what they think about dumping radioactive waste into the Pacific Ocean. Japanese PM Fumio Kishida thanked EU leaders who are removing import restrictions on some food products from the Fukushima region. He also attended the NATO summit but the plan to create a NATO office in Japan was ultimately rejected. North Korea warned the US to cease reconnaissance flights over their territory.
From FRANCE- First British and Ukrainian press reviews on the NATO summit. Joe Biden approved supplying cluster bombs to Ukrainian forces, creating condemnation from Cambodia, Canada, Spain, and many other nations- an analysis of the controversy which has created a split among US allies.
From GERMANY- By a slim margin, the EU parliament passed a law, the Nature Restoration Law, to help tackle climate change and restore biodiversity. The plan is to restore 20% of land and sea to its natural state by 2030- it was strenuously opposed by large scale farmers.
From CUBA- The UN Secretary General condemned the recent Israeli attacks on the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank. Then a Viewpoint on the presence of a US nuclear submarine at the Guantanamo military base- Cubans are demanding that the base be returned to Cuba.

From FRANCE- The murder of a French teenager by a policeman led to 5 nights of protests and riots across the country- 3 press reviews on the shooting, the government reaction to the protests, and the proposed blocking of social media. Then press reviews on the Israeli army attack on Jenin, the new highest ever global temperature, and UK PM Sunak withdrawing funds pledged to help developing nations suffering from climate change. Then a report on the IAEA stating that the release of radioactive waste water from Fukushima into the Pacific Ocean is safe.
From JAPAN- The IAEA agreed to the waste dumping from Fukushima, while South Korea, China, and the Pacific Islands question the accuracy of the data upon which the decision was based. The Japanese government is planning to build next generation nuclear power plants to replace the ones scheduled to be scrapped.
From CUBA- President Arce of Bolivia urged other nations in the Southern Common Market, or Mercocur, to reduce dependence on the US dollar and to strengthen each others currencies in trade. British police have new and expanded powers, mainly targeting activists who stop road traffic in protest with mandatory prison terms. A GoFundMe collection for the French policeman who murdered the 17 year old for a traffic infraction raised over a million dollars before being temporarily suspended.

From FRANCE- First a program called Perspective, an interview with Michael Sheldrick, a co-founder of Global Citizen, an NGO that raises money to fight poverty, climate change, and inequality. The French government has outlawed an activist climate group called The Uprisings Of The Earth.
From CUBA- Amnesty International has found that the Peruvian government has been using lethal violence against poor and indigenous protestors. There have been numerous events of deadly violence in Palestine and Israel, while Israel accelerates expanding settlements in the West Bank.
From GERMANY- Following the murder of 4 Israeli settlers by Palestinians, hundreds of Israeli settlers stormed Palestinian properties, setting fire to buildings and vehicles. African leaders took their peace proposals to Putin and Zelensky, with only the Russians listening to them.
From JAPAN- US Secretary of State Blinken made a 2 day visit to China, failed to restart military communication which could prevent unintended clashes. The Wall Street Journal reported that China is in talks to build a military training facility in Cuba- China and Cuba both deny this. China condemned Biden's remark calling President Xi a dictator, calling the comment a provocation. South Korean imports of Japanese fish continue to drop over public concern about imminent releases of radioactive waste water from the Fukushima nuclear reactor into the Pacific Ocean.

From JAPAN- 9 countries spent a total of $83 billion on nuclear weapons in 2022, with the US accounting for half the total at $43 billion. Iran has been holding talks with the US on the nuclear agreement which Trump had withdrawn from in 2018. The Japanese government has drawn up its first set of policy guidelines on space security.
From FRANCE- The EU announced new rules on the development and use of Artificial Intelligence. In Helena Montana 16 young people have brought a climate change lawsuit questioning whether the state is protecting the environment. Greta Thunberg has graduated from school but the Fridays for school strikes for the climate will continue. The UN reports that more than 110 million people have been forced to flee their homes.
From GERMANY- NATO is in the middle of its biggest air drill, involving 10,000 troops from 25 countries. For decades the US dollar has reigned supreme in global trade, but the Chinese Yuan is becoming the choice for many economically weak countries- an analyst explains the reason for the shift.
From CUBA- The Cuban Foreign Minister said that US assertions about the alleged presence of a Chinese spy base in Cuba are totally false. Iran and Venezuela announced an increase in bilateral foreign trade as the Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was visiting as part of a tour that will include Nicaragua and Cuba. There will be a large rally in London on June 24th to stop the extradition of Julian Assange to the US.

US Senator Chris Van Hollen called on Biden to make public a report on the killing of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh in Palestine by Israeli military forces. France threatened to ban Twitter from the EU.
From JAPAN- France is unhappy with NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) plans to open an office in Tokyo. More information about the recently discovered structural problems with a reactor in Fukushima. Scientists now predict that the Arctic Sea may become ice free at the end of summer by 2030.

From GERMANY- 1500 activists were arrested in the Netherlands, at an Extinction Rebellion protest against government subsidies for fossil fuel companies. Brazilian President Lula da Silva has offered to mediate for peace talks in the war in Ukraine- does he have the gravitas to accomplish this, and how do other countries in the global south view the war.
From CUBA- The Brazilian Consensus was a meeting organized by Lula da Silva for leaders of South American countries to discuss cooperation and integration in the region. Lula also made an effort to bring President Maduro of Venezuela into the international cooperation forum called BRICS. Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. A court in Brazil confirmed a lawsuit against former President Bolsonaro for harassment of journalists. Investment in solar power is expected to surpass oil for the first time this year.
From JAPAN- The Japanese government has extended the operational lifespan of nuclear reactors to increase the use of nuclear power.
From FRANCE- A series of press reviews. First the Turkish and international press on the reelection of President Erdogan. Then reviews of the meeting in Paris concerning the global plastics Treaty. From GERMANY- German authorities made a high profile raid on climate activists across the country. They are alleged to be members of Last Generation, a group involved in many instances of blocking traffic by gluing themselves to streets and airport runways. They are demanding that the climate crisis be taken seriously by the government. They are being charged with forming a criminal organization. While their ideals are widely supported in Germany, their tactics like traffic jams are increasingly unpopular.
From FRANCE- First a series of press reviews on French military spending, the conflict between Presidents Lula da Silva and Zelensky, and a cold war between the US and China on undersea internet cables. As the French government launches a national consultation on its climate change roadmap, predictions of a 4 degree celsius temperature increase by 2100 is being talked about, way beyond the 1.5 degrees goal from the Paris climate talks. Also why is Europe already heating up more than other regions of the world. There was a controversial attack on the Russian city Belgorod claimed by insurgent groups of Russian volunteers in Ukraine- the Ukraine and US governments deny involvement in the attack, but security experts think otherwise.
From JAPAN- The G7 summit in Hiroshima concluded with the Japanese Prime Minister hailing it as a success- unified support for Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia- the Russian Foreign Minister called the visit by Zelensky a propaganda show. Officials in Hiroshima called for an end to nuclear weapons. South Korean experts examined the facilities to dump diluted nuclear waste from the devastated Fukushima nuclear power plant into the Pacific Ocean this summer. Meanwhile the Japanese Nuclear Regulator wants to see a plan for dealing with recently discovered damage inside the Fukushima reactors."What I really learned in the army was how to be a pacifist."
